World Tourism Organization launches e-library powered by Ingenta

The World Tourism Organization has today officially launched and activated an e-library (www.wtoelibrary.org) created by Ingenta, the global market leader in the online publication, distribution and readership of academic and professional research.

A fully indexed and cross-searchable database of over 250 full-text reports published by the WTO, the e-library is free to its 142 member states, while tiered subscriptions are available for affiliate members, libraries and individual users. New publications and documents will be published via the
e-library as soon as they are released, in many cases before they become available to the general public. The e-library also includes the ‘Tourism Factbook’, a search facility enabling access to the most up-to-date statistical information on a country-by-country or geographical basis.

Speaking of the new service, Dr. Dirk Glaesser, Chief of Publications for the WTO said: “The
e-library is a milestone project which provides full and permanent access to WTO’s documents and publications via the Internet for the first time. It is ideal for communicating detailed information and research in an immediate and controlled medium to our 142 members states and millions of individuals worldwide.”

Simon Dessain, Chief Operating Officer of Ingenta added: “The WTO seized the opportunity to create a powerful service, with a scope and sustainability afforded only in an online environment. Together, we have developed a service that offers real benefits to the WTO membership and other interested parties.”

Ingenta has built more than 60 publisher-branded websites for its clients and hundreds of journal websites, ranging from branded home pages to highly customised stand-alone websites. In addition, the ingenta.com and ingentaselect.com services provide access to the full text of millions of articles. Over 15,000 institutions are registered with these services which deliver an average 1.8 million articles every month.
