Publishers capitalise on IngentaConnect’s high traffic
New advertising service increases return on online investment Ingenta, the technology provider which connects the publishing and information industries, today reports the initial success of its recently-introduced advertising service, which enables publishers to sell space around their online content and benefit from additional revenue streams. Decreasing library budgets and publishers' exploration of Open Access models have both contributed to erosion of traditional subscription revenues, compelling publishers to seek alternative means of monetising online publications.
The IngentaConnect advertising offering supports a range of business models to meet the varied needs of the service's 250 publisher customers. Publishers can choose to use or sell the space themselves, or to contract Ingenta's dedicated, experienced online advertising sales staff to sell space on their behalf. Publishers have control of the location, subject matter, frequency and acceptable viewer categories for advertisements appearing alongside their content, and can also choose the pricing model and set the price applied to their inventory. Advertisements are discreetly placed around the site to ensure minimum disruption of the user experience.
"With over 4 million sessions a week, IngentaConnect's traffic is a huge draw for online advertisers," notes IngentaConnect Vice President Douglas Wright. "Fifteen IngentaConnect publisher partners have already opted to display unobtrusive advertising around their online content, with many more expressing an interest. We have employed new staff with extensive ad sales experience to ensure that their inventory attracts the best and most appropriate advertisers."
Ian Russell, incoming Chief Executive of the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers, which provides electronic access to its publications via IngentaConnect, confirms the value of the service: "The not-for-profit publishing sector, which ALPSP represents, operates in a rapidly changing and challenging environment and we welcome innovative approaches that provide new ways of generating revenue. IngentaConnect's flexible advertising services will make available a new revenue stream for publishers of any size allowing them to gain a return on their online publishing investments, and ALPSP ourselves will be benefiting."
