BRILL selects IngentaConnect to support 50,000 article backfile

Ingenta, the technology provider which connects the publishing and information industries, recently signed a new agreement with key client BRILL which will see 50,000 digitized articles, dating back to 1890, added to BRILL's presence on IngentaConnect, the home of scholarly research.

The new content will be available in early 2008, at which point many of BRILL's 119 publications will be accessible back to volume 1, issue 1. Under the terms of the new agreement, Ingenta will also supply the backdata to BRILL's archiving partners, to ensure that this valuable content is both immediately available via IngentaConnect, and preserved for perpetuity.

"As online content proliferates, users expect that all the articles they need will be accessible electronically," says BRILL's Senior Vice President of International Sales and Marketing, Steve Dane, "and studies show that availability of backfiles is important for librarians to differentiate between academic journals in an increasingly competitive market place. There is also increasing evidence that digitization of back content can increase citations. Therefore, we've invested in building this fully-functional online backfile of our content, in order to better serve the needs of both our authors and our readers. With its significant library market share and pioneering developments with key partners such as Google, IngentaConnect provides us with an excellent channel for maximizing usage of our new archive."

Douglas Wright, Vice President of Ingenta, adds, "We've worked closely with BRILL for 8 years now, and in that time have always appreciated the opportunity to solve new problems for them. On this occasion, our proprietary content processing software will bring even their oldest content into the 21st century, with the state-of-the-art features and flexible delivery options endorsed by our 25,000 library customers."

IngentaConnect (www.ingentaconnect.com) provides access to over 10,000 electronic journal, book and monograph titles and over 20,000 fax- and Ariel-delivered publications. The site receives over 20 million user sessions a month from over 5 million unique users, and enables users to view full text via subscription and through a variety of different payment models such as library payment accounts, individual subscription sales and article pay-per-view access.
