The Charleston Advisor and Ingenta announce new partnership
Ingenta, the technology provider that connects the publishing and information industries, and The Charleston Advisor, the leading consumer report for the information industry, recently announced a new partnership that sees IngentaConnect hosting the online edition of the Advisor back to volume 1 number 1. The Advisor also benefits from the IngentabyDesign service, which applies branding to enable its own website to seamlessly incorporate IngentaConnect’s sophisticated feature set.
The decision to outsource online publishing requirements was taken within the framework of a comprehensive review of the Advisor’s web presence, which will include creation of a dynamic new web environment to showcase the journal and provide key support materials to information professionals. The Advisor’s sister publication, The Charleston Report, is also included in the agreement and will be added to the site in due course.
"After consideration of available online publishing services, a key group of the Advisor’s prestigious Editorial Board chose IngentaConnect for its speed of implementation and competitive pricing," says Editor-in-Chief Rebecca Lenzini. "We knew we could rely on Ingenta’s staff to deliver excellent service, and we trusted the IngentaConnect platform to perform well and provide solid functionality to our users."
"As a member of the Library Advisory Board for Ingenta and of the Editorial Board for The Charleston Advisor I can say Ingenta has improved markedly over the last year, in terms of service and speed and their responsiveness," adds Chuck Hamaker, Associate University Librarian for Collections & Technical Services, UNC Charlotte and member of The Charleston Advisor's Editorial Board, "They were quite competitive on cost. They loaded content and answered queries promptly and have implemented solutions rapidly to special requirements such as open access articles."
The Charleston Advisor was first published in 1999 and has grown to become the information industry’s leading consumer report and review tool for web-based resources, publishing objective, reliable and critical evaluations. Its peer-reviewed papers are a critical source of objective evaluations for information professionals seeking to assess electronic information resources. The journal’s Editorial Board comprises a roll-call of key information industry figures, including librarians and publishing consultants from around the world.
IngentaConnect provides over 25,000 libraries with access to over 10,000 electronic journal, book and monograph titles including other key information industry journals such as Learned Publishing and The Serials Librarian. Its proprietary content enhancement software adds state-of-the-art functionality to PDF articles, while the intuitive web interface provides users with a range of interactive features to support effective online research. The site enables full text access via subscription and through a variety of different payment models such as library payment accounts, individual subscription sales and article pay-per-view access.
